Certify Private Loans
Authorized financial aid officers can certify Nellie Mae EXCEL program loans using LoanLink. Certification is a real time transaction and will update the record upon submission.
Steps to Certify New Private Loan Records
- After logging in, click the EXCEL Central link.
- If you have access to data for more than one campus, enter the campus code for which you want to search on.
- In the field labeled What do you want to see?, select the status Loans requiring certification.
- Complete your date range option–Academic Loan Period dates or the Past Number of Days.
- Select the Fields to Display.
- Choose your Sort By option.
- Click search at the bottom of page.
Note: The following options have been pre-filled with default values to make the online certification process more convenient: What do you want to see?; Academic Loan Period; Fields to Display; and Sort By. All of the default values can be changed to optimize your search.
- Your search results will be presented to you; click certify next to the student loan record to be processed. The user will be taken to the Certify a Private Loan form for that particular loan record.
- Complete the certification form. Click submit.
- Review the information to be submitted. Corrections can be made here. If all the information is correct, click submit again.
- Print for your records. When the record has been updated with the certification information a confirmation will be returned with summary information and a transaction number signifying that the process is complete.
- Click back to search results to certify more loan records.
On the Certify a Private Loan page, the following fields will be pre-populated for the financial aid officer:
- Student SSN
- Student Name
- Loan Name
- Confirmation Number
The financial aid officer enters the following:
- Loan Period Start Date [required]
- Loan Period End Date [required]
- Student Grade Level [required]
- Student Not Eligible [optional]
- Anticipated Graduation Date [required]
- Amount Financed (Approved loan amount) [required]
- Enrollment Status [required]
- School Certified Loan Amount (should be certified loan less other aid received) [required]
- Common Line unique ID [optional]
- Disbursement 1: [required]
- Date
- Amount
- Action
- Disbursement 2: [optional]
- Date
- Amount
- Action
- Disbursement 3: [optional]

- Click submit.
The user will then be presented with a review of the information submitted. If corrections need to be made, LoanLink will allow them here. Otherwise, click submit again. When the certification has updated the loan record, a confirmation page will be returned.
Steps to Update Previously Certified Loan Records
- After logging in, click the EXCEL Central link.
- If you have access to data for more than one campus, enter the campus code for which you want to search on.
- For an individual, enter the SSN.
- For a group display, in the field labeled What do you want to see? select the status All previously certified loans.
- Select the Fields to Display.
- Choose your Sort By option.
- Click search at the bottom of page.

- Your search results will be presented to you, click certify next to the student loan record to be processed. The financial aid officer will be taken to the Certify a Private Loan form for that particular loan record.
- Update the form with data changes. Click submit.
- Review the information to be submitted. Corrections can be made here. If all the information is correct, click submit again.
- When the record has been updated with the certification information a confirmation will be returned with summary information and a transaction number signifying that the process is complete. Print for your records.
- Click back to search results to certify more loan records.
Note: Generally, it is better to make disbursement date or amount changes three days before the scheduled disbursement date. Nellie Mae notifies the financial aid officer if there are any problems with the requested update.
